The second Thursday of the month

SEPT 10, 2009 … EGG CUPS AND WINE GLASSES …
   Chosen because it involves many facets of turning, from spindles (long and short) to hollowing.

OCT 08, 2009 … GARAGE SALE …
   We have had several requests for it, so here we go.
   Bring in tools / machinery / wood / anything relating to woodworking that you may no longer use
   and wish to sell or exchange. You price your items, and you get the proceeds. You may want to
   label your items to make it easier to find the seller. The guild is holding this to help the
   membership. It puts together those who have things that they may want to get rid of, with members
   who may be looking for specific items.

NOV 12, 2009 … CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS …..
   Offers a variety of turning techniques and skill levels.

DEC 10, 2009 … CHRISTMAS PARTY and TURNING COMPETITION…..
   Once again to be held at the Burlington Legion Hall (828 Legion Rd).
   Do not forget your christmas ornaments to decorate the tree and trade, a new or home made toy
   to go to the Burlington Fire Department to help their toy drive. We will also be having our
   turning competition. The judging will be done by spouses and ribbons will be awarded.
   We also have tickets for raffle prizes for the evening as well.

JAN 14, 2010 … LIDDED BOXES …..
   (Standard and threaded) Offers many techniques from hollowing to threading and finials

For the more advanced turners, we looking for ideas for topics to cover during an evening. Peter will start by covering
turning a tall candle stick with an offset base. The idea is for you to get involved in the discussion as well as
lathe work to try and develop some more advanced skills. The topic can flow from turning the piece to chucking ideas or
finishing technics. We have a vast variety of knowledge that as a club we can pass along to each other.

FEB 11, 2010 … ROUGH TURNING BOWLS …..
   Brief address on microwave drying.
   Dave Page - Natural edge on the general; Ted Robinson - Bowls from a Board; Ron Dean - Ordinary bowls;
   Norm Kemp will work with beginners and Peter Hyde will work on a more advanced project

MAR 11, 2010 … FINISH TURNING BOWLS …..
   if not already finished down to and not including sanding.
   Al Murphy will take over from Ted Robinson doing bowls of his choice. All others in same positions.
   Norm Kemp will work on a beginners project and Peter Hyde will work on a more advanced project

APR 8, 2010 … ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION ON DESIGN AND FINISHING…..
   Bring in a piece that will not be entered in the Competition to discuss
   the design, proportions and finish and we will discuss the piece. You can
   say why you did the piece the way you did.
   Critiques in the form of suggestions on finishing/design of piece as it is passed around

MAY 13, 2010 … TURNING SQUARE BOWLS / PLATTERS…..
   We'll work on making square bowls similar to what Al Stirt showed during his visit last fall.
   Norm Kemp will work on a beginners project and Peter Hyde will work on a more advanced project

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION ON THE ARTISTIC ASPECT OF WOOD TURNING…..
   People can bring in turned pieces or any piece of art that can be related to wood turning art.
   Definition of Art - the use of imagination to make things of aesthetic significance.
   Aesthetics being an appreciation of the beautiful - Webster's Dictionary

PLEASE NOTE .. THERE WILL BE SHARPENING AT EACH HANDS ON SESSION WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS.

    Frank will show how me makes his bird houses

NOV 19, 2009 … Bruce Campbell from Coquitlam, BC
    Bruce will be in town and appearing at several guilds
    in the area. He will cover turning a variety of Christmas ornaments

DEC, 2009 … Enjoy the Christmas break with friends and family.

JAN 21, 2010 … 2010 General meeting with Executive Elections and Peter Hyde from GHWG
    Pete will cover turning calabash bowls

FEB 18, 2010 … Vince Lebert
    Vince will cover minitures and the tooling to turn them

MAR 18, 2010 … Eugen Schlaak from GHWG
    Eugen will cover how he turns bowls

APR 15, 2010 … Malcolm Cumming from GHWG
    Malcolm will cover turning with the Skew

MAY 20, 2010 … Norm Kempt from GHWG as well as The PRESIDENT'S CHALLENGE
    Norm will cover segmented bowls
    There will be ribbons for each of the three classes, Novice, Intermediate and Open

JUNE 17, 2010 … Kurt Hertzog from New York
    Kurt will cover various ways of enhancing your pen turning
